Lexis/Nexis Schmexis

For any law students out there or for anyone else who possesses Lexis points, a non-promoted option from Lexis allows you to donate your points to tsunami relief (converted to cash at a $1.60/1000 pts rate. Not exactly a lot but it's equal to the point totals for the other junk Lexis gives away). My Lexis rep didn't exactly promote this at all, but Jeremy Richey is pushing it.

Look at the crap you could get for your points. Itunes? Please. Has anyone ever heard of bittorrent? Study aids? Understanding Administrative Law isn't going to help you understand Administrative Law. Snorkeling gear? Golf clubs? The Washington Nationals? You'll never get enough points for any of that crap.

The cut-off is Feb. 4 so if you haven't already heard from Energy Spatula, Heidi or Jeremy Richey, dump your stupid Lexis points and feel good about it.

I have yet to use lexis for legal research, but when I debated we used it all the time, often not our own accounts. When law students weren't generous enough to donate us codes we tended to use "computer skills" to use those excess points... and while you should donate them to the tsunami victims... this time... in the future think about perhaps helping your almamater's squad... eh?

It's actually 1.60/100 points, which at least makes it seem a *little* better than 1000. Also, Westlaw started allowing donations last night, so now everyone who said they couldn't donate because they only use Westlaw have the perfect opportunity to help too. :)
